Chronicle of Accomplishments
The chronicle of accomplishments of the Chapter and its individual members from 1971 to this date is truly astounding. In fact, they are too numerous to describe in great detail. However, we would like to take this opportunity to give special acknowledgment to:
John Moss Smith
A few of his contributions to ARMA include being Chapter President for two terms between 1978 and 1980; recipient of Chapter Member of the Year Award in 1978 & in 1981. In 1982, he was one of the recipients of the Special Achievement Award. He went on to become an active member on the ARMA International Board of Directors as Region VIII Vice-President between 1982 & 1986, as Executive Vice-President in 1987, as President in 1988 and as Chairman of the Board in 1989. Thank you John. Your leadership has served this Chapter well and is appreciated by all of us. By the way, we miss your limericks!
Susan Dalati
Susan's contributions include being Chapter President for two terms between 1992 and 1994; she was the recipient of the Chapter Member of the Year Award in 1994. Susan has served on the ARMA International Board of Directors as Region VIII Vice President between 1994 and 1998. In addition, Susan has been active on several committees at the national & international level. In 2001 she was the recipient of the Ted Ferrier Award of Excellence .
Ted Ferrier
Ted's skills as a `statesman' are second to none. His quiet support to association members, at both professional and personal levels over the years, has been an inspiration to many of us. In addition, his role as the `great gander' has helped foster a team spirit that is so critical to the success of the Chapter. Ted was a founding member. He served as Chapter President for two terms between 1976 & 1978. He was the recipient of the Chapter Member of the Year Award in 1983 and was one of the recipients of the Special Achievement Award in 1987. Ted was the first recipient of the Ted Ferrier Award of Excellence in 1998. Thank you, Ted, for always being there for us and for teaching all of us the true value friendship and respect for each other.
Claire Lee
Claire's commitment to the Chapter is reflected in the number of years she has been a member of the Board of Directors since she became a member in 1976. Claire's sense of team work and personal commitment to excellence has had a positive impact on the chapter's successes over the years. Claire introduced the poem ` Team Work - the Sense of a Goose' when she became Chapter President in 1996. Her outstanding contributions to the Records & Information Management community were formally recognized in 2000 when she was awarded the Ted Ferrier Award of Excellence . Hosted the 1st Annual Spring Training Seminar at the Talisman Hotel in April
1975
American Records Management Association merged with the Association of Records Executives & Administrators to form the Association of Records Managers & Administrators (ARMA)
On July 1, 1975, the Ottawa Chapter received its Charter within the new ARMA
1977
Chapter took a lead role in the development of a basic introductory course in records management at Algonquin College; this initiative grew into a highly successful five-semester program that was aimed at preparing students to meet the requirements of the CRM examination
1980
Twinned with the Dallas Chapter under the leadership of John Moss Smith
1982
Recipient of Chapter of the Year Award for Medium-Sized Chapter (Chapter President: Claire Lee)
1st Graduating Class of five-semester Continuing Education Records Management Course at Algonquin
