Terms of Reference
Approved by the ARMA-NRC (Ottawa) Board of Directors on March 30th, 1999.
1. Purpose
The Ted Ferrier Award of Excellence was created by the ARMA-NCR (Ottawa) Chapter in 1998 to specifically recognize and focus on a pattern of significant contribution by an individual to their professional and/or local community. Recipients of the Ted Ferrier Award of Excellence have clearly and substantially given of themselves in the information management community they have chosen to devote a lot of their personal time, energy and resources.
2. The Award
The " Ted Ferrier Award" shall include the following:
a) A medium hot cast bronze sculpture entitled "Goose in Flight by Len Chodirker" to be presented to the recipient. The base will have the name of the recipient, the year of the award and the chapter logo inscribed on a plaque. This award will be kept by the recipient.
b) A roll of honour which would include the bronze mentioned in a) above on a pedestal. The following would be inscribed on the pedestal: names of recipients, year the award was presented and the chapter logo. The roll of honour will be retained by the Chairman of the Awards Committee and will be displayed at appropriate Chapter functions throughout the year.
c) A cheque to the value of 5%, with a minimum of $250, of the profits from the Annual Spring Training Seminar will be given to the award recipient's favourite charitable organization or scholarship fund. The receipt shall be in the name of the award recipient.
3. Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for this award, a candidate must meet the following criteria:
a) Actively employed in the records and/information management field for at least ten (10) years.
b) The nominee must have a positive reputation in areas of ethics, professional responsibility and standards.
c) The nominee was actively involved in the information management community and/or their local community:
by providing outstanding personal or financial support to one or more local community groups and charitable organizations, or
by providing outstanding leadership and vision within their workplace or through their personal involvement in a professional association.
4. Restrictions
a) Current members of the Chapter's Awards Committee shall not be eligible for consideration during his/her term of office. However, should a member of the Awards Committee be nominated, he/she may become eligible through resignation from the Committee before deliberations by the Committee on the awards begin.
b) No more than one Ted Ferrier Award of Excellence will be made in one given year. Selection of recipients is solely at the discretion of the Awards Committee.
c) This award can be awarded posthumously.
5. Nomination Process
a) Candidates for the award must be nominated by three (3) members of the Association in good standing. These three persons must be knowledgeable of the nominee's contributions and achievements. One of these members will be listed as the primary sponsor and initial point of contact with the Awards Committee. There are no self nominations. The sponsors must show that the nominee did, in fact, achieve outstanding results through his/her own personal efforts.
b) Petitions of nomination must be addressed to the Chairman of the Awards Committee, contain the signature of the primary sponsor as well as the signature of two additional nominators (refer to Appendix I and II).

c) The nomination must be received by May 1.
d) Members of the Awards Committee may use their discretion and nominate an individual. However, that nomination will be evaluated and rated in the same manner as any other nomination that has been received by the Awards Committee.
6. Judging
The Awards Committee will be guided by the following for each eligible nominee:
a) Verify, as necessary, eligibility criteria.
b) Candidates must achieve a total of 80 points or more from the selection criteria.
c) Consensus by members of the Awards Committee will be required to bestow the award.
7. Announcement
The Ted Ferrier Award of Excellence will be presented at the Chapter's Annual General Meeting.
